With a name like that, how can you go wrong? Big Chef Tom’s Belly Burgers serve up all-pork belly burgers and they do NOT disappoint. I’ve only tried one of Big Tom’s creations, the All American, at Off the Grid because it’s so good I can’t bring myself to order anything else. The best way I can describe it is that it’s like a gourmet McDonalds cheeseburger. Much like Mickey D’s, the patty and bun are pretty small. Small simplicity really is for the best sometimes. It makes you rethink a crazy big brioche and insanely thick kobe beef patty, though both are undeniably delicious. Chef Tom’s pork belly is fried, but again, not too big of a serving, so it’s not overwhelming. Add in classic sharp cheddar cheese, a slice of apple and rosemary mayo and there you have one of the best burgers out there.
I’ll have to try Belly Burger’s other menu items some time, but the All-American is just that good; I can’t not order it. Check out this Bold Italic story for a more in-depth look into Chef Tom Pizzica and the making of his burgers: Pork Belly Burgers! Need We Say More? In case you don’t care as much as me, here’s quite possibly the best excerpt (minus the photos):
“‘Dude, thats the tits, right? This is fucking good. What should I call it?’ He decided on The Paddington, named after Paddington Bear.“
