The woman behind Roe v. Wade


Did you know that the woman who brought the landmark abortion rights case, Roe v. Wade, never even had the abortion she superficially fought for? That she ended up being pro-life and now vehemently speaks out against abortion? That she had a longtime lesbian partner?

There’s much more to the story of “Jane Roe,” or Norma McCorvey, the woman behind Roe v. Wade. Hers is one filled with much beyond the watershed case: multiple pregnancies, multiple partners, death, controversy, drugs and alcohol, untruths and truths. An article from the February issue of Vanity Fair explores McCorvey’s life through interviews with friends, family and people involved with the Supreme Court case.
